OVERVIEW

San Fransisco's Rivendell Bicycle Works produces perfect bikes for daily riders, tourers, commuters, shoppers, trail riders. For athletes and get-arounders. NOT racing bikes. More comfort, safer, more useful, more beautiful, and much more versatile.

The OM-1 rear derailleur from Riv’s component brand S!LVER.

It’s a long-awaited low-normal derailleur from Riv, designed specifically for friction shifting.

“Low-normal” means it works in the opposite direction from a conventional derailleur, using a reverse-action design. Pulling the shift cable moves the derailleur toward the top end of the cassette, into a harder gear.

Manufacturing is handled by microSHIFT, so quality is solid. The derailleur is made from aluminum and comes in at a lightweight 7.85 oz / 222 g.

As a side note, the name comes from Grant Petersen’s favorite film camera, the OLYMPUS OM-1.

For full specifications and the story behind its development, check out the article on Riv's website.
